Only in Thailand.

Chiang Mai FC Infuriated – Bad Refereeing Almost Causes a Riot

Nov 5, 2012

Sports
CityNews – ‘The Tigers’ Chiang Mai FC played a home match against ‘The White Elephants’ Trat FC, the 2nd runner-up
in the AIS Regional League, Central and Eastern Region, on 3rd November at 700 Year Stadium.

Angry fans

Chiang Mai, playing 4-3-3, were looking to score goals though it was Trat who took the lead when in the 15th minute Wutthichai A-sucheewa collected the ball after it hit the crossbar and put it in the back of the net. In the last minute of the first half, CMFC equalised when flamboyant winger, Warut Sabso, fired the ball into the back of the net.

In the second half Chiang Mai had much of the possession though couldn’t capitalize on it. It took until the second minute of injury for the home side to get a goal. Cameroonian striker Aboubacar Sanogo Junior, flicked the ball over the keeper’s head to make it 2-1.
As Chiang Mai fans and players celebrated, with staff on the field and few Chiang Mai players left on the field, the referee started the match again. During the confusion Wutthichai A-Sucheewa equalised scored for Trat FC. The referee blew the final whistle, 2-2.

After the game, CMFC players, staff, and the president tried to speak to the ref and within no time Chiang Mai fans had also invaded the pitch. Chairs, bottles of water, cans of beer, and even dustbins were thrown at the referee, some of which hit the man in green. After the game hundreds of fans surrounded the exits to the ground waiting for the referee, though he didn’t make an appearance.

“My lads have done a very great job. However, this is the worst refereeing I have ever seen in my life. How can he start the game with some of my players celebrating the goal? I am utterly lost for words,” said Chaiyong Khumpiam, the Chiang Mai Manager.
Chiang Mai FC have now played 5 games and have 5 points. leaders Rayong FC and Srisaket United have 10 points. The next game will be 10th November against Rayong FC at 700 Year Stadium. Kick-off 6 p.m.
